You can find here all the information that you need to know about Horse Racing and betting on horse races. The following is a short description of the basics of the Horse Racing. You will know the basic terms used in the game. Here is the list of the common terms used in the game of Horse Racing and Horse Betting.

Place:

Place is a type of bet where the bettor bets on the three horses. These three horses are the ones which the bettor believes will win the first, second and third place in the race. The best thing about the Place bet is that the bettor has better chances of winning as the odds are less.

Win:

This is also a bet but the bettor bets only on the winning horse, i.e. the bettor places his bet only on that horse which he thinks will win the race. This bet is also the highest paying as the bettor is paid individual odds for every horse in the race. To know the performance of each horse just read the card where the odds of each horse is written against their names.

Show:

The Show bet is similar to the Place bet but instead of three chances of betting the bettor gets to bet on four horses. The bettor can bet on those horses which he thinks will come first, second, third and fourth. Thus the chances of winning are more than the chances in the Place bet.

Each – Way:

This bet is a combination of both the Place bet and the Win bet. The working of the  bet is like this; the player places two bets, one for the horse which he thinks is going to win and second is placed on three horses which he thinks will come first, second and third. Now you know why this bet is a combination of both Place and Win bets. The Each- Way bet can result in three ways:

  1. One possibility could be that the Win bet horse comes first, i.e. wins the race. In that case you will get double the payout, one for winning odds and second for the placing odds.
  2. Second scenario could be that your selected horse comes in second or third. In that case you will lose the Win bet but you will win the Place bet.
  3. Third scenario could be that your horse neither comes first, second or third. In this case you will simply loose the bet.

Quinella:

In a Quinella bet the bettor bets on any two horses that he thinks will cross the finish line first. The bettor will win if the choices that he made are actually the first to cross the finish lines. The order of horses in the bet and the order in which the horses finish the race are not important as long as the winner and the runner up are the ones that the bettor had selected in the first place.

Exacta/Perfecta:

In an Exacta/Perfecta bet the bettor is sure about the winner horse as well as the runner up horse. The bet can be won only when the bettor’s predictions come true; meaning to win the bet it is a must that the horse on which the bet was placed wins the race.

Trifecta:

The working method of this bet is quite similar to the Exacta/Perfecta bet because here too the player needs to predict the winning and the runner up horses. However there is a slight difference since the bettor tells specifically which horse will come not just first and second but also third. To win the bet the bettor must predict the exact order in which the three horses will cross the finish line and the horses should cross the finish line in that order only.
