But remember that the total of the values of each card in your hand should not be more than 21 either.

How to value the Cards: Getting a sum higher than 21 will make you lose your game and the dealer will win the game. To calculate the total you first need to know the value of each card. A card of a King, Queen or Jack is worth ten points; an Ace is worth 1 or 11 points (it is your choice) and the remaining cards from 10 to 2 have the value equal to their face value. Having a hand with two cards totaling to 21 is considered the best hand in Blackjack.

Basic Rules of the Game: Now that you are familiar with the values of each card now it is time to know the rules. First thing you do is place bets on the Blackjack table. Remember that no further bets can be placed once the cards are dealt. After placing the bets the cards are dealt. First the dealer will give you two cards kept facing upwards on the table. The dealer will also deal himself two cards but only one of the cards will be kept facing upwards.

After seeing the open card of the dealer you as a player decide that what the next step should be. There are only two possible ways, you can either hit or you can stand. In case of hit, the dealer has to deal you another card which will then be added to your hand thus increasing your hand value. In case of a stand no card is dealt and the value of your hand remains constant. Also if you choose to stand then the dealer has to reveal his other card which was facing downwards. Now if the total of the two cards of the dealer is lesser than 16 then the dealer can choose to hit. Ultimately the total value of both the hands will be compared and whichever hand has a higher value wins the game. The player is entitled to a 1:1 payout ratio but if the player wins because of a 21 point hand then the payout ratio is 3:2.

The Betting Options: The players have many betting options in the game of Blackjack.  There are many more terms in Blackjack like doubling down, splitting etc. In doubling down you can double your bet after the first hand is dealt to you.
